"Restaurant Tivolihallen is a classic spot for me. When it comes to real, old-school smørrebrød in Copenhagen, this is it. The boss lady Helle is always chatting, pouring snaps, and laughing with the guests. My brother, father, and I go there every Christmas for the traditional Christmas lunch. It’s difficult to highlight one, but I always end up having their juicy meatballs with lamb and spinach stewing. In the summertime, I love to sit in their beautiful backyard drinking beers and eating hand-pilled shrimps on toast."

"This is a hidden gem of a smørrebrød restaurant in Christianshavn. No website or SoMe, just a phone number to book or just walk by like all the regulars in the neighborhood. Run by the sweetest couple for 17 years, this is where my family always eats lunch. I always get the plaice with remoulade, just like when I came here as a kid. And maybe the smoked eel with scrambled eggs!"

There is just something about the traditional flavor combinations and toppings you should not mess with. Husmanns is old-school and traditional, the friendliest service and I am always amazed how the waiters can pour up my schnapsglas without even looking: right up to the edge, no space left unused."

"Restaurant Kronborg is my favorite place for smørrebrød. I think a lot of the classic smørrebrød places are pretty similar but I really like the people running Kronborg and the food is great. I am a big herring boy but their warm dishes are super good too. It's always my family’s first request when they visit from Texas. Always order a “fornuftig” O.P. Anderson (or several) and make sure to write off the rest of your afternoon."
